I have been reading this blog for some time now, got around to commenting today. Here are a few thoughts of mine (questions more like), I would be happy if I got some clarifications.

1) Can the Kashmiri Pandit community (and also the non-Muslim Kashmiris) build enough political momemtum to force a dialogue on equal terms?

2) As an Indian and a Hindu, I do feel connected very strongly to Kashmir and its culture (I am sure there are many non-KP people who feel the same way).

I believe there should be a process to connect the non-Kashmiri Hindu youth and sensitise them moe about the goings on and what could be the way forward.

The case in point being- some one who is geographically far away, like the South of India, gets the Kashmir goings on only through ELM (which is usually biased)- cannot get a first hand feel of the suffering and the struggle of the Hindu Kashmiris.

Many thanks.

Smriti

@smriti

Displaced KPs have two options
1. fight to get back lost property
2. move on, rebuild their & their children's future
most of them appear to have opted for the second option, may be for poetic justice's sake they should've fought for their rights but rightly or wrongly they chose to be practical.
For years their voices have been filtered out but thanks to technology many of them are making themselves heard in a very effective way, the way it should be in a "democracy"

Thanks a lot Sanjay, for your reply. For most part, I agree with you in reply (2).

Now, what I write is all old hat; sadly, the demography has been forcefully changed so completely and any impetus that is given by the GoI is only for Muslim Kashmiris.

The political pussyfooting by the GoI has helped in irreparably damaging Kashmir' demography. It is indeed sickening to read sound bytes like - "Panits are welcome to come back to the valley" by JKLF and its murderous thugs; equally sick of the media whose stance on Kashmir is so traitorous.

The phony CM and his party are as inept and opportunistic as his grandfather and father have been before him.

I would like to quote a line from the biography of Sh. Ram Nath Kak - which I read a few years ago- and which has remained in my mind as one of the most poignant:

"The climate in Honolulu is magnificent; it reminds me of that other paradise, Kashmir."

I hope for the KPs as well as for all other Indians, that the valley sees their return. I am sure the kehwa would taste much sweeter, at home - in the valley.

Hi! Whenever I read newspaper or magazine, the articles in them usually focus on Kashmiris (read Muslims here) but they never talk or write about those Kashmiris who are living a trash-like (sorry to use this kind of word)life in refugee camps in Jammu. I would like to mention 2 real life incidents:

1) Some Kashmiris go to other parts of India (like Delhi, U.P., etc.) to sell their stuffs like shawls, gowns, etc. I think it was '99. It was winter's time. My mother was going through the shawls as she wanted to buy one but was bit confused as all the shawls were good. My father came for lunch. As usual, she asked my father's choice. So, my father too sat with my mother and two Kashmiri boys. Since at that time we heard about burkha issue. Girls had to wear burkha otherwise they will be beheaded. Also, militants raped poor Hindu girls. My father asked the two boys whatever we are hearing (or reading) now-a-days, is it happening in your area too. To our surprise, both the boys denied saying that nothing is happening in Kashmir. There is peace everywhere. This is all crap (Ye jhooth. Sab galat before discussing something in their language).

2) The another incident happened with one of our neighbour. Aunty left the valley in '90s and while, recounting her previous years in valley, her eyes filled with tears. She even blamed Rajiv Gandhi and said "I am happy that he died. He was the one who said that I can't do anything for handful of Kashmiri Pandits".

Atrocities on Kashmiris (Muslims) LOL....I think it should be Atrocities on Kashmiri Pandits as they are the one who left their place, business, wealth, etc. and leading a life like a nomad. I've seen the pictures of Jammu refugee camps. The Kashmiris who are living their, don't even have proper toilets. They are living in TENTS. No one can't even imagine his/her life in tents.

And, now talk about Atrocities on Kashmiris (Muslims). They get everything. Be it education, shelter, clothing, food, jobs (if they want to do) in different parts of India and also a hefty PACKAGE from the government. Now too, Dr. Manmohan Singh declared Rs. 100 Crores package for the unemployed Kashmiri boys who are pelting stones (what about people living in tents and the jawans who are suffering). Still they are not happy. They want Indian troops to move out (I think to meet and greet their militant BHAIS). They always say India is bad, India doesn't have this, India is lacking in this (as if they are staying in Pakistan). I never understood why they are anti-India. If Pakistan is so good then it would have developed Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). People like Asiya Andrabi, Muhammad Qasim, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Umar Farooq, the Muftis, the Abdullahs are real hypocrits. They always want this issue on the front page so they can keep their stomachs full.

Part 2

Now, a little about the hypocrits:

ASIYA ANDRABI - leads a women group; married a militant Muhammad Qasim; hardcore anti-India; has two sons; is against of education for Kashmiris but wants to send her kids to Malaysia or Indonesia; elder one wants to play cricket for India (if GOI will be benevolent, we can watch militants or their sons playing in our national teams)

MUHAMMAD QASIM - husband of Asiya Andrabi; a militant (I think this is more than enough)

SYED ALI SHAH GEELANI - hardcore anti-India; Hurriyat leader; not even interested in talks; frequently meets delegates from Pakistan

UMAR FAROOQ - Hurriyat leader; united militant organisations to form a single party (do I need to write more about him)

THE MUFTIS - Mufti Sayeed doesn't know where to stay whether in Congress or in another party. He was so confused that he, finally, formed a new party for himself and his daughter Mehbooba; his daughter (forgotten her name) was kidnapped by militants of JKLF but was left in exchange of five militants (would that happen if a SINGLE common man was in place of her)

THE ABDULLAHS - Sheikh Abdullah was first against of India then became loyal to India; Farooq Abdullah too wanted freedom, became CM and after joining Congress led government became Cabinet Minister but giving the CM's chair to his loyal son Omar Abdullah, who is always ready to fly to Delhi for charity works (mostly done by his wife) and consultation; also this Omar Abdullah got passport made for Asiya Andrabi's elder son

I am not a Kashmiri Pandit but whenever I read about them, I get tears in my eyes. You may call me a sensitive or emotional pro-Hindu (mind you I am an Indian first) but my heart cries, my eyes filled with tears when the two simple terms Kashmiri Pandits come in newspaper. They are not just two terms. They are the ones who are actually SUFFERING and this suffering term, they can actually explain.

These kind of websites or blogs only create more hurdles between hindus and muslims of kashmir ,who were living brotherly since centuries. The differences started after india's military intervention of kashmir in 1947.India promised that people of j@k will be given a chance to determine their future, but the promise was never kept.People started fighting for their rights politically until 1987 when india carried rigged election only to show separatists have failed.Kashmiri youth took guns as an final weapon ,because peaceful protestors were killed in massacres by indian troops like ,gawkadal massacre, hawal, handwara, kupwara massacre, sopore massacre.Hundreds of pro indian hindus and muslims were killed by militants ,but it doesn't mean it was communal in colour.india's infamous politician was appointed governor of kashmir, who ordered hindus to vacate kashmir and promised them safe back journey to kashmir after muslims are suppressed. kashmiri pandits lived very harsh life in camps, while muslims of kashmir were killed humilated by indian force every hour. Now the point is kashmiris pandits are comming back to kashmir and is welcomed by every section of kashmiri society.people of kashmir, jammu ,ladakh, must be given their right like REFRUNDUM, so that they can determine their future. On the other hand sacrifices of 5 lakh kashmiris for the sacred cause will never be wasted.india should realise kashmiris have never accepted india as their country .Indias military occupation of kashmir will not remain for ever. One day kashmiris will have their day.One day kashmiris will win because they will be heard......
